The Wright State University Alumni Association was founded in 1971. The purpose is to foster a fellowship of individuals who share a common institutional interest and to develop a sound collegiate heritage by coordinating activities and services which contribute to the academic, cultural and physical growth of Wright State University.

ver the past four decades, Wright State University has awarded over 100,000 degrees to over 90,000 alumni who have benefited in many ways from the Alumni Association. Since 1994, the Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship program has been providing tuition assistance to students pursuing their WSU degrees. These scholarships are intended for the families of Alumni Association members and continue the growth of our institutional heritage. The WSU Alumni Association is a member of the Wright State University Foundation's Robert J. Kegerrries Society. Named in honor of Wright State's second President from 1973 through 1985, society members have contributed more than $1,000,000. The WSU Alumni Association was recognized with the prestigious Inventing Tomorrow Award in recognition of their thirty years of continuous support and philanthropy to Wright State University.
The Alumni Association is governed by a twenty one volunteer Board of Directors, who give their time and talents and participate in a variety of alumni and foundation events and programs. This group also works with volunteers on planning social events and bringing alumni together.
There are other non-monetary contributions that the Association provides. Career mentoring is a program where Alumni Partners assist current students and recent alumni in developing their careers. Currently there are over 40,000 alumni living in the Miami Valley and a total of 59,000 in Ohio. The influence of WSU Alumni is extending nationwide with alumni members living in the District of Columbia, Texas, Florida, California, Indiana and Kentucky.

The Alumni Association has developed regional chapters to strengthen the links between the university and alumni living and working outside of Dayton and the Miami Valley. Regional chapters currently exist in the Miami Valley, Baltimore and Washington D.C.areas and alumni events are held nationwide in cities with significant numbers of Wright State alumni. Thanks to the efforts of a throughout Ohio, Indianapolis, Tampa, and Washington, D.C. The Alumni Association also host societies for affinity groups. Alumni events are held nationwide in cities with a significant numbers of Wright State Alumni. Thanks to the efforts of a small cohesive group of 1971 alumni, the Alumni Association has grown into an important nationwide support group for the Wright State University community.
